Gee.. I wonder how people got it in their heads that the stock market is some kind of infallible index of overall economic health? Puzzling...

Is it really necessary? Like: "oh the stock marketing chaos means the end on an era" 5 minutes later: "The stock market being down doesn't mean anything on the long run. The economy is fine" It is pretty contrdictory.

Even if you're right, which it doesn't look like you are, why does everyone at the NY Times have to agree?

They don't have. You're right. But can you explain how in the world this is not contradictory, and, therefore, I'm wrong?

The latest era of making easy money in the stock market is over for a variety of factors. Separately, the stock market is just one indicator of economic growth and is generally overvalued as a metric by the public.

The economy is fine. It is chugging along at a sustainable rate and we're at or near full employment. The stock market, on the other hand, is grossly over-priced and is due for a severe correction of something like 40%.
