Previous generations also had to contend with similar issues. The scientific community was convinced in 70s that the earth was facing the next ice age imminently. However, I strongly support the mentally weak removing themselves out of the gene pool.

Okay, no on the whole Ice-age thing. There was a Time cover (I think) that was talking about a book, not the scientific community. The latter, I absolutely agree.
