Ever notice there aren’t a lot of old welders? When you weld for a living you accept you are going to put your face in to the fumes of burning flux, oil, metals, etc etc etc. No one ever says OMG THE WELDERS ARE DYING YOUNG!! We all kind of just know why. Same with NFL players.

So you are saying that we should raise awareness for welders dying young and increase safety standards?

Great story. Seems like the movie “Concussion” came and went and now everyone is just back watching football, forgetting that we are watching men put their lives on the line for our enjoyment...like gladiators all over again

Wow. I can’t believe y’all could read that story and not have empathy for that family. He didn’t ask for this - she didn’t make this deal - their children most certainly did not agree to give up their dad.

My attitude about football has changed significantly since the initial studies were released. My heart goes out to all the families who are suffering.

Back in the 1890s when football was becoming the new thing in colleges, college trustees tried to ban it because they considered it too hazardous to students' health. And of course, they were right, but the students ultimately prevailed. Annual injuries were gory and horrendous.

Someone once told me, "when sports become a business, is not longer a sport". I quit long time ago following any "professional league", feel so bad about this family!

This happens to our military as well. I feel for this family, but I feel more for vets and their families who suffer after serving their Country and without the benefits of the NFL.

I'm genuinely sorry for those who are suffering the "absence" of the man they once knew, but...didn't people kinda think that chronic, powerful head-slams might result in permanent brain injury? Glad to see that a WHOLE lot more people are talking about this problem.pic.twitter.com/IZLUNiG5Pz

No, they didn't. The NFL wanted it that way. They made biased studies that said there was no way players were having concussions. When CTE was first published in a medical journal the NFL tried to discredit it immediately.
