A co-morbidity in the frayed relationship between doctors and patients is that doctors learn to distrust *everyone*. Women will go to the ER with a burst ovary, and the doctors will assume drug seeking. I've experienced it myself, with a nurse dumping me out of my wheelchair.

Great but on a larger scale we have to approach addiction as a health issue and not a criminal justice issue. Take the money from interdiction, prosecution and incarceration and put it into rehabilitation and counseling. Attack it from demand side, supply side doesn’t work
