Dear OP-ED: Believe it or not, the audience for this show is not entirely made up of cutting edge music listeners who only want the latest one hit wonder. Did we forget that the awards telecast is for corporate advertisers and broadcast viewers?

Remember when Bruno Mars was the latest cutting edge one hit wonder? Like....2 years ago
-
Except he wasn't? Been in the Industry for years as a song writer?
-
Even his “old” songwriting work dates back like 10 years, and the media losing their shit like his wins mean the Grammys are out of touch

I like this piece. That being said, I feel like the Grammys have ALWAYS celebrated "safe" music.

I respectfully disagree with this article. Not everyone listens to hip/hop and rap. Just as not everyone listens to pop, rock, metal and country. I think to be truly "diverse" the big 3 categories (Song, Record & Album) should feature songs from across ALL genres.

No secret, the Grammys have never been on the cutting edge--from Girl from Ipanema beating out The Beatles, to Santana getting his first Grammy in the year 2000, not 1971 (Same with Steely Dan, receiving the award for an album few listened to).

This article says Cardi B’s ascent has been supersonic. Yet I’ve never heard of her. Is it her or him? So, you know, can’t have been THAT supersonic.

Is that supposed to mean something?

Funny enough this came two days after it was revealed that Hillary covered up one of her employee's repeated sexual harassment issues and refused to fire him. Yet the same people claiming

were the same people applauding her on the screen. -
Not that Hollywood and the music industry isn't full of hypocrites or anything.
