She was all buckled in for a flight to say goodbye to her mother. Minutes before takeoff, her ticket was canceled.http://nyti.ms/2nhmw9k

@united and #TravelDesk can just get bent. How do you not have some policy that allows for moments like these? This is definitely not the first time someone missed saying goodbye to a loved one because an airline messed up someone's ticket. You are the worst.

United: your ticket was rescinded. Customer: What?!My mom is literally dying right now! Please, I'm trying to get home to see her before she does. United: No one flies for free. Are you serious?! You have no compassion at all. You couldn't find some way to make it work?!

Actually, I think people should technically fly for free in such extreme circumstances, and be respectfully and considerately billed a month or so later. The seat would have been left empty anyway.

This is the culture the U.S. has worked so hard to achieve: efficiency and value for the corporation - certainly not the consumer (and it's only going to get worse). There is no remedy for what they have cost this woman; how truly awful.

The usual response is that this creates an overall better customer experience and something about communism.

@united agents still haven't gotten the memo not to be horrible to passengers. All this did was leave an empty seat on the flight and reinforces distrust in the airline.

I am from this industry, in these kind of last minute sensitive cases, unless it’s a security issue. We let the passenger fly,use the flying time to get clarity on the issue. If problem still exists with the passenger, meet them on arrivals and sort it out.We fly humans not cattle.
