A film about a legendary Hindu queen who kills herself instead of surrendering to a Muslim ruler has stoked violence and mayhem in India even before its premierehttp://nyti.ms/2E89GSY

Mayhem in North India. Not in South.

I am quite ignorant to this phenomena but NYT does claim that two (northern) states in particular are experiencing the bulk of violent backlash because of the Rajput population centered in those states. What are other explanations for why South India is reacting differently?

Because the South has nothing in common with the North. Neither the language of the film (which is falsely advertised as the national language, and it’s not), nor is the content of the film related to Southern history. Also, people in South aren’t silly enough to fight over films

Thank you for your response- obviously the diversity of Indian society can’t be captured in a tweet. I have lots of reading to do!

My response is specifically for @nytimes which has a responsibility to present actual facts. It’s tiring and tiresome when one of the most important publications of the world continues to erase the South, by always overextending Northern events to include the entire country.

the same thing happens to #Detroit in mainstream media. whenever something bad happens, the headlines always read "Metro Detroit". it plays up a long held stereotype of majority cities of color as being inherently unsafe. #DetroitVSEverybody @TheDVEBrand @DetroitPeoples

I can empathise. Detroit does have a reputation for being violent even here in faraway Bangalore where I live. An unfortunate, inaccurate and biased reputation.

See films aren't just for fun and games. In other countries they can be used for blatant propoganda and to agitate the people. History can be rewritten through media. Not a good sign.

Please don't get mad at each other for spiritual matters. God is real. He is a God of goodness and love. He doesn't want us hating each other down here. Be good and loving to everyone. Jesus is the Son of God. He wants us all to love each other with a deep love.
