YES! The lawsuit alleges opioid manufacturers used deceptive marketing to flood the city with prescription painkillers, creating “a substantial burden on the city through increased substance use treatment services, ambulatory services, ER dept services, inpatient hospital ...

That happened to the entire country. This should be dealt with at a national level but that would expose lobbyists and politicians. With this administration. Doubtful.
-
Maybe if NY is successful in making some progress here, it could lead to national action

Legal meds vs illegal drugs...pot was once thought as huge 'gateway drug' & now look at it! That's same logic used if all legal meds equal heroin users & od vics!

Maybe he could do something practical like approve safe injection sites and not allocate city budget towards overpolicing, but treatment instead

I've lost 4 people I care about, in a little over a year, due to opioid use. Conversely, I've never lost anyone or know anyone who was killed by a Mexican immigrant. Let's get our priorities straight. Use tax dollars wisely.

Thank you for that!

The solution to this problem is to revoke DEA licenses from overprescribers. Ask pharmacists who they are. We know.
-
Exactly. The DEA records everyone of these prescriptions and has access to that information, if they want it The drug companies have it as well.

this is so stupid. then why not sue doctors who prescribe incorrect dosages? or every alcohol manufacturer (many deaths are from respiratory depression from mixing alcohol + opioids)? suing big pharma will just make it harder for pts who TRULY need pain relief to get their meds

Oh please, every single JUNKIE started drugs via prescription opioid, NOPE.
-
But a lot of them did? I once was prescribed 15 Percocet just for getting wisdom teeth pulled. Something most young adults have to have done. I mean, if they’re depressed that’s already a risk right there.
-
An old neighbor used to get 120 Percocet every month for back pain. This allowed her to sit for hours playing bingo 3 nights a week & pull 12 hour shifts gambling at local casino.
-
That’s insane. I’m all for not being in excruciating pain but if there were ever a limit on the number of opioids to just hand out they’ve certainly exceeded it.
