The torrent of people who have died in the opioid crisis has transfixed and horrified the U.S. But most drug users do not die. Many, like Patrick Griffin, are trapped in an unending cycle of addiction. http://nyti.ms/2BkgMAz pic.twitter.com/vwoPnV8sMl

The Griffin family allowed The New York Times to follow them for much of the past year because they said they want people to understand the realities of drug addiction. “We are your neighbors.”http://nyti.ms/2BkgMAz

In the 20 years that Patrick has been using drugs, he has lost track of how many times he has overdosed. He guesses 30. All the Griffins speak of nonstop stress.pic.twitter.com/zh3qB3uJyC

Want coverage on old people (vs young) and opioids. The young r very prone to addiction, a tragedy. Old are not. We need opioids cuz many of us can't take cheaper anti-inflams due to digestive tract issues. Have R.Arthritis, all RA drugs useless now, opioids help hugely now. Thx.

I'd like to see a story that, while acknowledging the opioid crisis and what needs to be done to fight it, looks at people in severe pain in America and the world are having more and more trouble getting opioids to help their pain because drs. are too afraid to prescribe them.
