My Mom did this in 2005. She passed away this past December. She had dementia but was diagnosed wthe terminal cancer. I was so glad I knew what she wanted. It was still hard at times. I am a retired nurse. Make sure your family knows your wishes.#dementia

Please make a plan. Write it down. Get a living will. If you knew how easy 80 yo ribs crack during CPR you would never want it for the purpose of prolonging suffering.

Yes I have worked in nursing homes and people don’t fully appreciate how hard it is to resuscitate a frail person of advanced age . I still have horrible memories of cracking ribs

This is good idea but I’ve seen situations where patient had all their wishes spelled out & a family member opposes, it all goes out the window. Family have hard time letting go so will still want everything done to keep loved one alive.

Agreed , I have also seen doctors back down from wills if the family is strongly against a portion of the will , I interrogated my POA and told them they better not wimp out in the end

Just finished my book on the issue of how to make these decisions. After working in nursing homes I realized most people really struggle with these issues and wait too long to have these discussions . Please make your wishes known !

It is ALWAYS important that ppl, even young ppl, have an "end of life" plan, or some sort of directive in the case of an accident that leaves them in a vegetative state. Watch: https://youtu.be/NAlnRHicgWs  @ZDoggMD knows how important it is, being a doctor who has had 2 deal w/it.

And end of life counseling is important. Or as the Republicons branded it & many Americans bought into “death panels.” Some people are as gullible as the Republicons count on them being.

There's a good chance I'll get dementia it's supposed to skip a generation so I feel comfortable with my joke and a don't think people going through it like to be treated differently if anything from what I remember they get badly frustrated being treated differently .
