Actually it has to be returned regardless of who broke it off, in almost all cases.

Or simply don’t date the type of guy who buys an engagement ring. It’s sexist and old fashioned
-
Besides the man can always give the ring to his next fiancee which is gross. Don’t go down that road

But why give a ring when you want it back!

I feel once they’re married the ring is hers, even if it only lasted a month. If the engagement ends it should be his. Rings can be expensive and some men will save or borrow money. It’s fair!
-
Not if you picked it out and partially paid for it!
-
If you get divorce, it should be considered a marital asset—even if it was for an hour. Which means both get half the value. Regardless of who paid what.

No It’s her jewelry, we’re allpwed to have personal items, just like he will have personal things of his own. Or does she then get to put all his personal things that she gave to him into to the kitty? Don’t think so.

It should be the decision of the 2 people in the relationship. I would give it back, if I wanted to break up with the person or the person broke up with me, why the heck would I want it? I wouldn't even want the money I may get from selling it.

I supplied my own engagement ring so would definitely have taken it back had my partner not become my husband, Had he given me a ring however, I would most certainly have returned it had I broken the engagement, no question.

If the engagement is broken the ring is returned unless otherwise agreed to by both giver and recipient. It's just good manners.

Yes, because it’s given with the promise to marry. If that doesn’t happen the ring should be returned. Besides, why would you want to keep it?
-
I assume people have plenty of reasons for keeping a 10K ring.
