My first thought was how a teacher, no matter the subject, who can only find threats as a way to motivate students probably isn't a very good teacher to begin with. Or maybe I just had really great teachers.

Put on leave? Excuse me? Anyone who threatens any child with violence needs to be fired. Yes, the racial insensitivity is horrendous but no child should be threatened with physical harm. This episode is equal parts racial hatred and violence.

But if the kid said that a group of his friends would hunt her down and hang her, he’d be in jail charged as an adult right now

Probably not. If I heard something that flagrantly racist and upsetting you best believe that homework would be the last thing on my mind. That class was probably in uproar.

He was put on leave after the story made the papers. What is going to happen now? Also he knows the history of that word, 'lynching' , that's the exact reason he made that comment. He's a racist who outed himself by making a racist comment, it's plain and simple.
