The first time cutting season came around, Nice Leng’ete and her sister ran away and hid in a tree. The second time, her sister refused to hide. Leng’ete never forgot what her sister suffered, and as she grew up, she was determined to protect other girls. http://nyti.ms/2D96Uzo

Infant boys are routinely subjected to barbaric genital mutilation (politely named circumcision) across the globe for no other reason than tradition in most cases. Perhaps one day we can end both of these atrocities again helpless children.

Surely there's someone at the New York Times' Twitter handle who's smart enough to explain why #FGM is a human rights violation while #MGM (male circumcision) is just fine & dandy? The "newspaper of record" couldn't possibly be affected by cultural bias, could it?#i2

If only the vaunted @NYTimes opposed male genital cutting (circumcision) as much as female genital cutting (circumcision or worse), maybe then we'd have a modern world. But it's too politically (read: religiously, corporately, sainted-powers-that-be) correct. Change opinions.

Oh the irony. Only the @nytimes could produce this article literally a day after attacking #POTUS for his alleged description of said geographical location.

A story about a woman standing up against brutal cultural traditions by educating and empowering girls, changing the the minds of stubborn men and bringing about change. If your only response is "shithole" you should look into a mirror.

"Cut" is soft wording for what they do their women. It goes beyond that...Mutilation is more accurate. Some cultures are better than others
