"We don’t want people to illegally enter our border, doing so is not a free ticket to Canada,” Mr. Hussen said. “We are saying, ‘You will be apprehended, screened, detained, fingerprinted, & if you can’t establish a genuine claim, you will be denied refugee protection & removed.’

That is bad news! Really sad news. The United States strongly supports the asylum seekers for their integration in Canada. I will take up this with the @CanadianPM tomorrow and make sure all those who are kicked out from USA gets a safe home in CanadA.

We (Canada) play by the rules. We need immigrants to strengthen our society, but we politely ask that you play by the rules. Go to an occupied border crossing and speak to the Border Agents. It may not be in your best interest to claim asylum.

Those were two completely different circumstances, or does that not matter?

From what I understand Obama quietly had a 6 month ban on immigration from certain countries because there was a failed terrorist plot from documented refugees and he was trying to avoid any further issues.

He wanted to make sure the problem was taken care of before allowing immigration from those countries again. Trump just doesn't want anyone from a predominately Muslim country, anytime, ever.

But wasnt trumps ban temporary as well?

I think more of the issue is that Obama actually had a reason and a set timeline to actually issue a temporary cease travel order, there was actual potential threat. Trump's is preemptive without any actual cause.

As well, Obama's was for Iraq only from what I understand.

Maybe if the President wasn't such a #shithole racist Canada wouldn't be dealing with this.Canada welcomes refugees and immigrants but we never expected refugees from the United States ... until Donald Trump.
