same with child welfare workers. people who serve others earn low-wages bc people don't really matter in this country.

You nailed it. People don’t matter in this country - particularly not the very young or the very old.

The people responsible for the basic education/socialization of future generations should be paid/respected the same as traditionally prestigious professions (doctors, lawyers). One could argue the societal contribution of these people is larger, long-term

This extends to all primary/secondary ed. teachers as well. Such an important role, taken for granted

School districts often pay superintendents 10x the salary of their lowest paid educators.

This is why there is a growing shortage of teachers. Many new teachers leave the field as they can't afford their job.

In San Jose Ca and most of the Bay Area a teacher would not be able to afford a modest apartment!! Better pay for Some of our most valuable people in our young children’s lives. Affordable housing as well. @CityofSanJose @DaveCortese @SamLiccardo @SanJoseRHS #affordablehousing

This holds true in the entire Bay Area. I'm a special education aide in Palo Alto, which is one of the higher paying districts, and I still can't pay rent on my own. The same job in Fremont (near my home) is minimum wage.

Many preschools aren’t public so they rely on private funding (tuition) to pay and upkeep schools. Meanwhile states are scrambling to improve standardized testing when they should begin public education sooner, especially in low SES demographics. Smh.

Not going to happen because being a teacher isn’t profitable. Sad but true. An investor would rather invest money in an athlete that will create a name for the team and build revenue.

It doesn’t even have to be star teachers. People who work with kids can mold society. They should at least be able to afford to own a home I. The community in which they teach.

That can often be the case. There are also day cares, but that’s different from preschool (less educational, less organized). Unfortunately not every city and town in the US has a preschool program.
