First came the discovery: Many young children were buried in an abandoned septic system on the grounds of a home for unwed mothers in Tuam, Ireland. Now comes the painful reckoning.http://nyti.ms/2r2IbXP

That is horrifying. The Catholic Church should do the right thing & dig up the entire area & perform DNA testing, informing all family members that are still alive & give each child a proper burial.

The catholic church will take a long long time before they apologize. Thank goodness Ireland has begun to throw off the cruel yoke of that sinister and evil cult.

So many things wrong here. Heartbreaking. Shame on the Catholic Church, shame on the nuns, and may God rest these poor children and their mothers who suffered so much.

The Catholic Church has the literal cash money to pay for this. Or they could seek a painting or two from the Vatican. But of course will do nothing. These children were in the Sacraments of the Church. They deserve far better than to be left in a septic system.pic.twitter.com/05kxhhKXTq

How did all those babies die? What did the Catholic Nuns do to those babies? The Catholic Church need to answer for this. They love hiding their dirty laundry & protecting the ones who don’t deserve their protection

A tragic and horrifying story, but also an amazing investigation by an amateur historian that is inspiring and demonstrates how hidden truths can be uncovered and brought to light by the dedicated efforts and tenacity of ordinary, everyday people. Really incredible work!

Excellent followup to the discovery of this sad chapter in the history of the unwed & unwanted-I'll wager that Ireland is not the only Catholic country with this same tale.

Anyone interested in history this is quite a story, tied to the workhouses in Ireland and the cataclysmic fall of the Catholic Church there, from which it has never recovered.

A long & shameful part of Ireland. Govt. paid a fee per child to the convent towards their care so both Govt. & Church involved. Many children sent abroad particularly to US for adoption. Many siblings still alive & nobody giving information to survivors. Thanks Catherine Corless

I would suggest the remains be shipped to the Pope. He can spend a few hours a day praying for the victims of the Tuam holocaust.

I’m sure we could find an appropriate resting place for those poor souls at the Vatican.. maybe a monument to the world’s abused children - many of whom had a beloved priest or nun in their lives @VaticanCultura @vatican_it

Catherine Corless, a local volunteer historian in Galway, investigated the details of this grisly case. Corless used her own money and resources to buy the birth certificates of these forgotten babies. A true legend.pic.twitter.com/cfaMK5sCuJ

This article raises crucial questions about Ireland and the role played by the Catholic Church in the running of the state. Heinous crimes were committed which resulted in the mistreatment & deaths of the most vulnerable in our society. And nobody has yet been held accountable.

Ancient Rome didn’t become Christian; Christianity became Roman. Who told those nuns to do this? The priest-in-charge? Because those sisters in that day, place, and time didn’t sneeze without permission from the priest, now did they. Horrific.
