Walmart said it would use its savings under the tax bill to raise wages. Then it closed 63 Sam’s Club stores.http://nyti.ms/2qY7cU7

Companies stay in business by closing stores or companies that do not make money. Maybe refer to someone in your business section on how this concept works. Scary what a political hack this once great paper has become.

the issue is that they're trying to frame this wage raise as a great thing for their workers, while then closing 60+ stores and putting thousands out of work with absolutely no warning

I agree the handling of it at store level was really poorly executed by WM.

GM announced they are moving construction of their ram truck line from mexico to michigan, creating 2500 jobs and spending $1 billion in the process, citing the tax cut as the main reason. So......yea.

People up in arms about store closures need to look in the mirror at one of the reasons. The massive move to shopping online makes physical retail facilities harder to justify. Don’t blame the retailers for trying to adapt to consumer patterns.

Estimated savings to be $2.2 billion. Cost of new packages estimated at $700 million. Nice deal if you can get it ...

Well you know the sole purpose of a business is to make money, not to employ as many people as possible.

Not if they are being given MASSIVE tax breaks for the sole purpose of job creation...

You will of course be able to come up with a contractual agreement to prove that this was the sole reason for the tax bill that was signed into law.

Companies do this kind of cutting all the time (boogie man sounds in back ground) even when Obama was in office...gasping 😂

$11.00 an hour you got to be kidding.I was making that in 1978. It's taken 40 years for these individuals to finally get there. It's $1000.00 bonus for 20 year employees. Most Wal Mart employees are on their states assistance programs.Sad
