A mentally ill man was arrested for disorderly conduct. His bail was $500, and he couldn't pay. So he spent more than 2 months in jail.http://nyti.ms/2DoJJ0J

Agree. I also thought they were talking about Trump. they could have send Trump to keep him company. Trump says crazy things then when someone confronts him, Trump denies he said it. Then when CNN plays back the video then Trump says WRONG..& changes the subject.Trump lies

Forget about Trump for a minute. How much did it cost to keep this man in jail for 2 months? More than $500? Let him go or spend the money on mental health.

"A mentally ill man was arrested for disorderly conduct." So what is the solution? Released immediately without bail? Mental health treatment is not exactly funded. Quit building stadiums with taxpayer funds and concentrate on more legitimate government functions.

@Cityofatlanta gets an F on helping mentally ill people. Police even arrest mentally ill people from @GradyHealth psych ward for disorderly conduct. Unbelievable! Arresting someone at the hospital for disorderly conduct who is in the hospital for mental illness. Huh? #resist

So what is the solution? Is the bail system being used by law enforcement to remove the mentally ill from the streets since apparently Grady can't handle them in their psych ward? I don't see letting this person out without bail as a solution.

The solution is mental health help and not arrest. The solution is helping people get off the streets. The solution is to fund these things and get programs into action. The solution is action and not empty words. @Cityofatlanta #MayorBottomsStepUp

Time to prioritize what government spends our tax dollars on. They have a $1.5B stadium that replaced another one that cost hundreds of millions but can't fill a pothole or stop water mains from bursting. How much to change a street name so no one is offended?

Reliable oversight is needed. Also, Atlanta has many issues that come along with growth. Foresight is so crucial when planning. Too much corruption in DOT and local government. Everyone has their hand out wanting to grease their pockets. #resist

I'm with you on that one. It is the reason government is a necessary evil that should be limited as much as possible.

Maybe they should have allowed him to do community service until the debt was paid. For those kind of situations, we need our leaders to make more reasonable decisions. Come on now. He IS mentally ill. I guess we expect a mentally ill man to conduct himself orderly.

Let me guess, they are incentived by federal funding for each prisoner they hold? Our justice system has produced victim after victim. What a travesty.

The bail system is an outdated method of insuring those charged with returning to face the accusations. It unfairly punishes (w/o trial) the poor, while letting the prosperous skate on even serious charges. Reform is needed instead of wasting our time on new ways to help the rich
