It would be super great if we could stop pretending that harassment and seduction were the same thing and that ending one will end the other.

I have extensive knowledge/experience w/France & French feminism--so I get what they are trying to say. What this piece overlooks is that "amour courtois" implies consent. #metoo is about agression, non-consensual behavior, & power inequity.

Not even French women are buying what they're selling. Nor should anyone. These are conservative, misogynist women, publishing in conservative French press, using tired old anti-feminist rhetoric to protect bad men.

Why is it when women stand up and call male abuse by its name, instead of acknowledging the worldwide abuse of power by men and attempting to find ways to deal with it,societies main focus becomes trying mitigate the fall out or warning of unintended consequences for men.

We all have the right to decide what we do/don’t find appropriate. But NO ONE - incl other women - has the right to make that decision for us. This is the basic principle of feminism. Equality. Freedom. CHOICE. Silencing harassment victims is not feminism. Stop excusing it.

I'm not a native english speaking guy, but I think that saying Deneuve is one of the "author" of the letter might be misleading and not accurate. She "signed" the letter, she did not wrote it.

Only a fool would confuse a compliment with being sexist. Unless you're one of those kind of women who sleep with a man, and when he don't call back you go on TV, and claimed you were sexually abused.

Only a fool does not distinguish between a comment made by an official during an official function on an official figure of the host country and a casual comment made on an actress by someone holding no position of power on social media.

Really wonder how French women come to “like” French men given their reputations, or maybe the key lies just in giving up all expectations, while American women have’t given up all theirs.
