        As a physician I can tell you, a lot of homeless people come and check themselves in when cold weather is predicted. However, if they don’t meet criteria to stay WE CANNOT KEEP THEM. The answer isn’t to shame the hospital, but rather to create homeless safety nets/shelters.

        Even my cat was concerned by this poor woman’s wailing, and got up and came over and tried to curl up with my phone while I watched. My cat has more compassion than the people whose job it is to care for sick people.

        Staff can not take patients home with them, staff do not choose to appear less than compassionate. Driven by the business model of healthcare in the US

        This happens all the time, in every city. Hospitals do this with uninsured and homeless patients regularly. Ask any social worker.
