And this is exactly what #FATCA is doing except much worse, it is costing the tax payers billions while bringing back millions only if that. #congress needs to get with it and repeal FATCA ASAP @RandPaul @GOPSenFinance @BankingGOP @SenateGOP @SenateFinance @SenateDems

Yet another way Republicans corrupt the system. They defund the #IRS even though it brings a huge return on investment as a quid pro quo for their rich donors. Then they “hire out” the work to a middle man & get ripped off. #TaxScam

I think his point was what it costs to hire a private collections agency vs what it would cost an in house IRS agent. The IRS is currently so understaffed nothing gets done in a timely manner. I'm not a fan of them, but they're there & they should be staffed adequately.

My point is that this underfunding is a feature of Republican governance. It is strongly within the special interests of the ultra-wealthy to restrict the ability of the IRS to audit & investigate tax avoidance. Thus the budget & staff are slashed.

Exactly. The IRS is currently understaffed by over 17,000 employees, almost 7,000 are enforcement agents. Why doesn't Trump bring those jobs back

That's the American way. If there is a buck to be made for corporations, it doesn't matter how much it cost the taxpayers.

This is a rounding error compared to the $1.5 trillion that the IRS will not be collecting because of the giveaway to the 1% in the recent tax bill.

Pat attention: When Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin was asked at his confirmation hearing what he thought about using private companies to collect money owed to the government, he replied that it “seems like a very obvious thing to do.”

This was a decision made by the GOP. I worked for the IRS for thirty years. Every time Congress passed legislation to allow private collection agencies to collect unpaid taxes, they caused additional work and didn’t collect as much money as promised.

I’m in commercial real estate and I’m yet to see a government lease that isn’t grossly above the market rate. No worse business than the one that can’t fail.
