"Insistent or clumsy flirting is not a crime, nor is gallantry a chauvinist aggression." Catherine Deneuve and dozens of other Frenchwomen denounce the #MeToo movement.http://nyti.ms/2qUni1c

As a formerly clumsy flirter, this is quit a relief.

No one hates men - but „stealing“ a kiss, touching a knee etc. is NOT flirting but harassment unless a woman has somehow indicated mutual interest!!!

Well, we’re gonna need a contract from now on if hand on a knee 30 years ago is considered harassment and can destroy a person’s life.

Members of my family were tortured and killed for being in the resistance and helping Jews, and not every French agrees with Catherine Deneuve. It's easy to generalize.

This is why the #ExposeYourPig movement in France failed, where the #MeToo movement shines and succeeds. Commentary like this is misguided ignorance and perpetuates a cycle of invalidation.

#MeToo isn't exclusive to criminal acts; in fact, it's deeply rooted in sexual harassment in the workplace that creates hostile work environments. Denial and silence allows the continuation of abuse by keeping glass ceilings in place.
