Why are all teachers underpaid? We have shortages of teachers in all 50 states and that ‘need’ hasn’t changed the ‘supply’ salaries an iota.

Hmmmm, now seen as a woman’s job? And helping nurture people? nonprofit no overhead/low pay assumptions flowing into any and every job and sector serving the common good?

The richest country the world has ever known. Why can other industrializeds country make quality preschool free/sliding scale but we can't? We can but we don't. Us Americans fetishize the dumbest stuff. Same thing with healthcare. We don't want to give up this idea of "freedom".

In other words, we don't value the things that truly matter. Healthcare, safe housing, education...

This is why I give to every teacher I know. The burden placed on them fiancially (buying school supplies) in addition to doing their actual job is so inappropriate given their salaries.

As a teacher, it’s sad to see how we struggle with money!! We don’t ask to make millions, but a good decent salary like many other professions. Many times we are so stressed because of money and we transfer that to our students. Many of us buy materials with our own money!

My SO is a preschool teacher. He loves his job but he's paid near minimum wage. Luckily, I have enough income to support us but it's vile how low we pay teachers. Investment in young people is the best way to a better future.

Riveting article and sad! These teachers teach our babies whom we cherish and love and yet America would rather minimize and devalue a preschool teachers worth. We must do better.
