I live in an area with high number of Salvadoreans. For the most part they are hard working, Law-abiding, family-oriented people who contribute much to the cultural fabric of the area. The neighborhood will not be better off.

From 2001 to 2017 - 17 years and did nothing to get permanent residency. Temporary usually means a few months, maybe few years, certainly NOT 17 years!

How much empathy and compassion do you have for a temporary guest staying at your house for 16 years? I have compassion for those who take advantage of someone's empathy and compassion.

        1) The US is a big house. 2) they came in under George Bush. GB should have established guidelines/timetables. Instead of giving them an open ended timetable. 3) if they're law abiding, built their own house (after staying in mine) then what's the harm?

The definition of temporary is ENOUGH of an explanation. The size of the house isn't the problem. They didn't even start the process of legal citizenship.pic.twitter.com/HuiKTmixjf

Why not change the initial policy and let them stay permanently and become US citizens? They've already been here 17 years, why send them away now? Why destroy their lives and their children's lives?

Because Republicans hate anyone who isn't as white as they are. Or so it seems. Well, unless those people clean their homes or work in the yard.

The workers here who take those jobs; taxpayers. On average, Central Americans are a net economic drag, as those who want to come here are generally unskilled w/ very low education levels. So usually eligible for EITC, SNAP, medicaid, school lunches, subsidized housing, etc.

Laura, statistically immigrants create more jobs than citizens. They don't steal jobs, they literally bring us more jobs.https://twitter.com/BrookingsInst/status/949076736884359169 …

The key word is “temporary”. What is the point of “temporarily” letting people in because of a natural disaster if you never intend for them to leave?

Because we intend to continue to benefit from their job creation and the millions of dollars gathered from their income tax. Not to mention benefitting from the types of labor you wouldn't be willing to do.
