If these women listened to everyone who thought speaking truth to power was rude and to choose "another time" to say something, they would still be silent just like you expect them to be. Guess what, #TimesUp #GoldenGlobes2018

What a way to jeopardize a beautiful moment for Guillermo del Toro. Good for everyone, he killed it with that heartwarming speech

I mean, but maybe this year the male directors did the best? Like, if they would have thrown in a token female director would that really feel gratifying? 🧐🤔

Have you watched this year's movies? Followed the news about them? No, tokenism isn't the only way a woman could have been nominated.

It’s that way every year. Just saying. The bitterness isn’t cute and if the men did better than it’s not sexism!!!

But you'd prefer to take it for granted that OF COURSE there were no women worthy to be nominated.

These awards are like a campaign did any women campaign for women director? The remark was needless and reinforces a negative stereotype.

All this anger for a woman who quietly stayed a fact, and didn't smile. You're making Portman's case, not your own.

Yes a fact. Sure. There is always a time & place. The night was already sending a msg. Why tarnish a moment for nominees? What did they do?

that cheapens their nominations this year. Its the fact that this year of all years, with so many worthy women directors, NO women were. /6x

I'm a woman & I thought that was rude. I like Natalie Portman but this movement just got its legs & will take some time. Quality movies by women need to be made & I believe they will be but maybe there wasn't enough made for this past awards season. Let's celebrate all!

Although it perhaps wasn't the right moment to speak out, Greta Gerwig should have been on that list.

How exactly? Movies were selected based on merit, happens to be they were all created by men. If the sex of those nominated bothers you, you just might be a sexist.

No, dude. Like every industry, men too often promote men and shut women out. It’s not about those men making the best movies but the fact that there are so few female directors to begin with.

Listen man, if you can provide evidence of actual sexual discrimination, I will happily stand beside you; Sexism is evil. But if a free and non-discriminatory system is dominated by one sex I don't care, b/c no sexism took place. Quantity has nothing to do with inequity.

Go talk to some women and ask them to prove that sexual discrimination exists. See how that goes for you.

Yes, sexual discrimination exists. Racism exists. But to suggest that institutional sexism and racism exist you will need a tad more evidence.
