I never thought that The New York Times would ever go after the victims but here they are. Do you know how much GUTS it takes to come forward and here is this once fine newspaper invalidating them. For shame, NYT, for shame!

Women standing up to tell their painful and deeply personal stories of harassment and assault, so that other victims do not feel so alone and misunderstood, is NOT "frail as Victorian housewives. It is BRAVE.

This has NOT been my experience with my female friends and colleagues.

Daphne Merkin: Don’t presume that you and your friends speak for all - or even most - women. While you’re certainly entitled to your opinion (vacuous as it may be), this bit of fluff is neither helpful nor necessary.

Super unnecessary

Boy. NYTimes opinions is all kinds of “edgy” hot take central these days. That’s not a compliment.
-
By the way, how dare the author speak for me in a rant that devolved from dislike of women and men bravely talking about their assaults to a shapeless fear of controversial paintings being taken down?

I don’t think there’s a need for a distinction between harassment and inappropiate behaviour, since both NEED TO DISAPPEAR. And I have no problem with men who behave inappropiately with women having their careers destroyed.
-
The behaviours you list as “non predatory” are nevertheless, a reflection of misogyny, and thus, bad. When will people understand that we need ZERO tolerance with misogynistic behaviour?!

Uh....I have zero idea who this author has surrounding her, but this is absolutely NOT what the women around me say in private. This article is vapid. I’d say do better NYT, but we all know that’s increasingly impossible.

What a moronic column. Of course there are differences in scale. Of course some women have no sense of that scale and demand too much. That doesn’t negate the very real - and very prevalent - issue of harassment and assault - especially against women with lesser means. Perhaps
-
The author needs to venture out of her clearly cloistered existence and talk to the real women, for whom this is a very real issue and who have little support or recourse. She won’t. Too easy to remain self-satisfied, smug and condescending.

“We” who? I haven’t talked to any other women who share the opinions of this writer.

Standing up for myself and other women does not make me frail. Way to redefine the word and shame all the courageous women who have come forward to say enough is enough. You're on the wrong side of history.
