Since Hurricane Maria, politicians have focused on delivering food, water and infrastructure to Puerto Rico. But a hidden crisis is also emerging: mental health. http://nyti.ms/2CFbl4W pic.twitter.com/BVISvfUsJC

100 days without electricity? Job? Dependable meals? A real shower? Kids doing without? Enough is enough. Mental health has to be a casualty, along w/ hope.

There should be no focusing and more doing. Look how long they been without power, water, food, home. Send the reserves and get sh*t fixed.

I wasn’t until seeing the devastation of Puerto Rico & Virgin Islands that I realized I had PTSD from Hurricane Hugo in 1989. It goes deep.

This is despair. To some extent we have all been emotionally assaulted, our lives and liberty threatened in one way or another. For disaster victims, there is also betrayal and abandonment by country. Hopelessness.

I remember the time we were without power for 28 days in Quebec in January 1998. I feel for them.

Why of course mental health is an issue. How would we feel if we had no reliable power for weeks and no roof over our heads? Could lead to depression.

I lost my house to a fire the same week my son was diagnosed w/ autism. I have made taking care of my spiritual health as important as my physical health which helps my mental health. Disasters do happen..my husband (a toxic male lol) says soldier on or choose to be mentally ill.
