I have been a Met member for 25 years. I just saw the Michelangelo exhibit yesterday (ASTONISHING!) and told the people manning the membership desk that I would permanently cancel my membership if they instituted this policy. This is going to hit New Jersey residents who frequent the Met the hardest. Isn't living in New Jersey punishment enough?

I always appreciated the fact that you could donate what you could instead of paying the suggested amount. I definitely don’t mind paying for museums, but the Met gets so much money from wealthy donors, sees a bit greedy.

I still don't understand why students are given discounts to enter cultural institutions and those that can't or don't study are required to pay in full. Surely the latter need easy access just as much, if not more, than the former. Access should be free for all.

Of course all cultural and educational institutions should be free and easily accessible but, you know, baby steps.

It is a big mistake. The entire American people need free access to grow wiser! And international tourists need to see the greatness of America. With admission fees of $25, many people and many poor people will never see the museum. It’s a gigantic loss.
