Opinion: Beijing denies this, but China is an imperial power and it is occupying Hong Kong. Again.http://nyti.ms/2CJLqWt

Puerto Rico, the Hawaiian islands, and the Aleutians, Alaska were never part of the US before they were acquired in various ways. Hong Kong was always part of the Chinese mainland.

Inaccurate comparison & misleading formulation. Han people under Qin conquered Yue's Lingnan from "China". Modern "China" has been an empire, invented by the KMT's RoC to secure all of Qing which CPC's PRC taken over most (some given away). #history

Let's start talking about U.K. and U.S. as erstwhile imperial powers occupying too many territories

Wasn't the agreement that Britain 🇬🇧 would hand over Hong Kong to China 🇨🇳 in the 1990s as she did?

I mean, aren't they supposed to? Hong Kong is theirs to occupy. I like NYT but really there is no story here. If they wanted to keep Hong Kong independent they should've fought harder instead of putting it off in an agreement.

In case y'all not familiar with history, China signed a lease with the British till 1997. So yea Hong Kong is part of China. Please educate yourself before posting this nonsense.. PS: I was born and raised in Hong Kong

What "China" are you talking about? Qing empire was never "China", and the concept of "China" was invented by the KMT and RoC to take over control of akk of Qing land. Plz educate yourself. #history

The China that people of 2018 know. The borders we agreed on internationally. Under your viewpoint you can say "well what America are you talking about? California wasn't a part of US until later. The US wasn't even a part of America until the Brits took it.

        1. And I'm talking about "China" legitimizing PRC's rule. Perhaps right the CPC should parade this malformed concept to show its absurdity. 2. That's slippery slope on national composition. California would belongs to its Indigenous, and "China" is akin to European diversity.
