A crucial reason for high U.S. health costs is surprisingly simple. But fixing the problem is more complicated.http://nyti.ms/2qfreJp

WHY are political leaders complicit in giving huge sums of money to Big Pharma by failing to negotiate healthcare costs? We need to unmask the greed cycle between K Street, Big Pharma, Billionaires, Wall Street & Congress & the Senate & WH. Time to break the cycle 4 #CommonGood

Rent seekers find it cheaper to buy government properties & rent them to others; Money, tax farming, monopoly, land & resources. All sources for unearned rent.

Why is it shocking? I’ve been a nurse for 43 years. We know what’s going on. No one asks us for any input. Money talks & rules healthcare! I’m for single payer system. Do you see other civilized countries looking to get out of single payer? No

@afrakt @aaronecarroll You mention all-payer and single-payer. What about eliminating the principal-agent problems associated with employers purchasing insurance on behalf of employees and insurers being compelled to function like subscription medicine?https://www.quora.com/What-should-be-the-next-step-in-American-healthcare/answer/Ian-McCullough?share=bf56cae3&srid=iwL …

I saw a walk in doctor (equivalent of a non-emergency urgent care visit) in Mexico and got a lab test for under $5. In the US that visit would have cost me $125+ w/o insurance.

Price controls have a long proven history of economic distortion leading to poor resource allocation and ultimately scarcity. There is a better way.

You mean disease management. Look at what people are shoving in their faces, no wonder everybody is so sick. That is not food, but trash. Our bodies can compensate only for so long. If we did the same to our cars, they would break down pretty fast, that’s why we don’t
