Title is very misleading.. Should be why the PEOPLE of the U.S. spend more than other countries. Title gives the wrong impression that the USA Govt. spends money on its people.

No it doesn't. The US spends more on health care refers to the US economy, not the US government. They compare us to places that have single payer, single provider, and market based systems. But it's always percent of GDP.

Because it is not universal, it is for-profit.

I tell you why, big pharma bought all politicians, and hospitals have 3 or 4 different price list for the same medical events. The whole medical sector in US is a big mafia. That's it.

Maybe it's due to health problems related to a crappy diet and poor food options. Instead of stoping disease we allow it to happen and then pump people full of prescription drugs. Food companies and pharmaceutical companies make out, only in America

Evidently we're too stupid to move to a single-payer system based on the Swiss model ... we prefer to pay 40% more than the next most expensive nation, end up with 10's of millions uninsured, and have many mediocre health outcomes relative to other advanced countries

We long ago mistakenly turned health and medical care into a for-profit industry, and those huge-money special interests and politicians have been profiting ever since at the expense of Amercans’ health and wallets.
