Hi David Brooks, many will tell you that this is a bad article. Since you need the page views I’ll be the one telling you to stop using primitivism and tribalism as “savage” metaphors. They imply that Western colonial powers had civilization and culture and the rest were animals

Yawn....

No worries - that article and replies like yours were just the tonic.

Tribalism has been humanity's eternal bane and apparently, Republicans have cornered that market
-
Heck, check out the recent election in Alabama, political tribalism at its worst. Only a sadist or complete idiot would stand by a human zero like Roy Moore yet - stand by him Republicans did, including Trump

David, in case you have not noticed, I must tell you that, although it may seem weird, the most radical and intolerant group today (speaking of the common denominator) are the liberals; since they are the strongest arm of the promotion of tribes and actions with fascist overtones

I'm sorry, but are you seeing the author? Tell me, just one case: How can the acquittal (of manslaughter) of a killer be a reinvidication of the rights of immigrants? Do you see tribalism and denial of the rights of some there? You know what I'm talking about, right?

Interesting to correlate GINI coefficients with degree of tribalism in each country. Presumably the more equitably resources are shared the less tribalism, as all feel included. More unequally they’re shared, the greater the tribalism as people join tribes to fight for resources

So in your haste to create a grand unifying theory we're either too individualistic or too tribal. Which is it?
-
One of his points was actually that they aren't mutually exclusive.
