Five City Ballet dancers — one of whom is still with the company — came forward in The Times to describe verbal and physical abuse dating as far back as 1993. Here's that earlier story:http://nyti.ms/2zZGp8Y

I think the company has some responsibility here as well. It seems they may have turned a blind eye to this behaviour for far too many years.

What I dont understand is why are women running to newspapers instead of filing police reports after these incidences? I question whether these are smear campaigns. If they aren't, why are they going public with their claims? Democracy means giving each side a chance to speak

They aren’t running to the newspapers and it is not just women. The dancers who complained went to management or to the union. The paper found out about it and came to them.

Good for them for reporting it to management & their union. Thanks for clarifying-I did (kind of) suspect men might be involved too. This is another example why the Times & Post are disgusting me lately. They are vultures circling to get stories & then victims lose credibility

Well, I don’t agree that the victims thereby lose credibility, but I agree that the Times has made some terrible decisions re how it covers this and other stories. In my view it has made some good ones and some spectacularly bad ones.

I agree with you in terms of lack of consistency with the Times. My problem is these papers are creating the stories. They sometimes plead with/prey on victims to come forward so they can "break" the story. Once victims go public, it becomes publicity for the papers & themselves

True. And then the papers do not necessarily always acts responsibly about consequences to victims, since they are more concerned with selling newspapers. On Harvey Weinstein story though it seemed like reporters were good at protecting those who wanted to stay anonymous.

I agree. This is why I get angry with the whole thing. Victims deserve their dignity & respect but they tend to lose it once they go public precisely for the reason you mention (paper wants to sell copies). It becomes marketing. I hate it. Yes Ronan Farrow did an amazing job.

There had been no trial. Most cases never make it to trial. That’s neither here nor there. If there is a pattern of misbehavior should the employer continue to ignore? Wouldn’t be too smart huh?

With all these allegations slowly surfacing in the press. I've always wondered about male pediatricians. Why would any medical student seek a job that is the lowest paying job in the medical profession? A woman I can understand to a certain point but a guy?
