I'm sorry, but we've had a year of that attitude & we're the worse for it. He's the President & a paper of record needs to at least do the bare minimum. We get his unfiltered views on Twitter. Interviews like this are the rare opportunity to press him like we would anyone else.

Or, at minimum, fact check him WHEN YOU PUBLISH. The NYT needs to add more value than Twitter does to Trump's rants. Or it risks being asked, "what is it you DO here?"
-
Exactly. They could have written the same article that the
@washingtonpost did, putting all that covfefe in context.https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/news/fact-checker/wp/2017/12/29/in-a-30-minute-interview-president-trump-made-24-false-or-misleading-claims/ … -

When someone is lying or wrong, a journalist stops him.
-
But then they become combative, no? Trump might hold this reporter to leave if he called him out on his lies.

Absolutely not! You KNOW that his base believes every word! So all you did was underscore the ‘veracity’ by publishing it as is. Why not print it with the headline ’Trump lies again... for 30 minutes’ and then print it with the FACTS right along side.
-
Totally agree with you.

If a reporter hears an answer he knows to be false, he should ask follow-up questions, at a minimum stating the true fact or facts in dispute. We rely on reporters to ask questions we are not there to ask,to elicit information we need to know.
-
Exactly! We are counting on YOU to do your goddamned job and you utterly refuse.
-
*I* don't have access to Trump to ask him these things. And you're too busy fawning and stroking to hold him accountable for ANYTHING. The Times should be embarrassed.

What a dangerous assessment. Considering you guys spent all of 2016 second guessing Hillary to make her seem untruthful and corrupt. Shame on you. Trump is yours. You own him.
-
Translation: Shush now. MEN get to speak. Women? We harangue and challenge you at every turn.

It was not impromptu! Christopher Ruddy chose Schmidt to "interview" trump, knowing Schmidt would act as a stenographer & not press trump on anything. Why was your reporter lunching w/conspiracy theorist Ruddy at trump's golf club? Stop acting as a propaganda tool for trump.
-
You have a responsibility not to allow your paper to be used by trump to give credence to his lies & delusions. But that's exactly what you've allowed him to do. Your reporter left him unchallenged & your paper printed his words w/o context & correction. We deserve better.
