A mile of subway tunnel in Manhattan costs seven times the global average. Why? Start with 200 workers paid $1,000 a day — to do nothinghttp://nyti.ms/2zLMExd

I worked as a Sandhog for 13 years. I was never paid to do nothing . It is hard backbreaking work. I have seen many people I worked with die, be seriously injured, or contract silicosis .They earn the money that they work hard for. Most people wouldn't last a day working there.

This is a misleading headline. This daily figure quoted includes base rate + fringes like healthcare, pension, etc. They are paid overtime after 8 hours, and a higher rate for night work. The actual rates per hour are between $40-$68 https://applications.labor.ny.gov/wpp/showSearchWageSchedulePublic.do?method=showIt …

Um, their base salary & benefits all go into the same pot... "cost"... Cost to an employer.

My contention is with the headline implying workers walk with $1k a day. They do not. This kind of headline can be twisted to cut wages.

Engineering is generally more expensive and engineering professionals generally make more in the USA than anywhere else in the world.

Yes I agree. But I was speaking about other costs. In general amministrative costs are not well defined so the works slow down. In the end the costs are doubled.

Simple. Same reason that a pill that costs $0.25 in Canada costs $5 in the US. Corporate greed.

actually that all has to do with the FDA and Government regulations. Nothing to do with "corporate greed"
