New York City should lease the subway to a well financed private company with stipulations to improve all aspects. Def needs a good freemarket based efficiency shakeup. coming from a liberal.

Not a free market issue. It comes down to political power for Cuomo & other politicians in return for political contributions financed by these deals.

Tough administration, anti-corruption laws, or campaign finance reform might help.

I agree 110%, publicly funded elections would be the perfect solution. But realistically that has zero likelihood of happening in the short term future. Government has zero incentive to run MTA efficiently like a buisness the same way a buisness would.

@NYCMayorsOffice @NYCMayor This is open corruption hurting New Yorkers. Cuomo looks like Trump in this article and the NYC needs to push back.

NYC has the world's hardest bedrock, millions of dollars change hands between officials and millionaire company owners, layers and layers of waste but let's not attack laborers here, It's awful work and should be well compensated

It all comes down to laziness on all sides, and lack of competition. The ridiculously low amount of bids needs to be explained.

Every weekend that they are working on my subway station. It is literally one person working and 3 standing around him. It is a scam. They are probably getting 1.5 to 2x pay on weekends to do little or nothing. Also toll booth people sleep and do ZERO now. Try ask for help

Another example of how the government is inherently susceptible to corruption. These kinds of projects make a lot of people a lot of other people’s money. This is not a problem that “more government” can do anything but make worse.
