A far-right politician called Berlin's Holocaust Memorial “a monument of shame.” So an art group built a replica outside his bedroom window.http://nyti.ms/2BTgGVW

Wait, isn't that almost the exact same argument many are making against having Confederate Monuments on display? “We learn from our past so it does not happen again,” said Mr. Ruch, who was born in Dresden and now lives in Berlin. “That is who we are. That is our strength.”

Maybe it is because this is a memorial for the victims and not monuments that show southern generals in heroic positions.

Heroic is subjective, mostly because we don’t ride horses anymore. That was normal at the time, and true to life. There is nothing wrong with not displaying your countries shame. I have no opinion on the monuments removal, but it does seem to be the same attitude and argument.

It would be the same attitude to build a memorial for the victims of slavery or the normal soldiers, not the generals. The monuments show postures that are not true to life but were designed to make the men look nobly.

I don't understand the point it is a monument of shame especially to German people who have to live knowing that's part of their history but as socialists its also part of the art groups history it being done by an evil socialist.

That will change his mind...no it won’t. He will just get a bigger following and the press will encourage it, so they can sell copy and ads. Oh, and use it when it’s convenient come election time.

"Monument of shame" in the meaning "a monument remembering a national shame". Like a monument for My Lay upon Capitol Hill or 2m stones erected around White House for every Iraqi the US slaughtered.
