This is insane. It's just a matter of time before Trump must have these new toys; they are a page right out of his authoritarian playbook.

Pretty much every country on earth already uses these tactics. We pioneered them decades ago.

Developed, but heretofore unnecessary in a democracy. Are you really OK with these tactics to suppress dissent? What if they had been used on the Tea Party? No Democrat would have tolerated it. Consider that.

"democracies don't use it" this is a sham. Look at the G20 protests in Germany or Standing Rock here in America.

Should we use it? No. Do we use it? Under cover of blocked media. Kent State. Let's live to fight. ✊

I know we already have these ugly weapons against the people. It was LOCAL, not federal law that attacked the Standing Rock protestors. We can all agree that violent reaction to peaceful protesters is wrong. That an entire industry has sprung up to service this is appalling.

It's infuriating to see the Times pretend this is some foreign phenomenon. Maybe if they ever covered genuine dissent here instead of corporate "rallies" and giving publicity to Nazis, they would see that. The NYPD has literally all of this. It's just painted black.

what about, uh, America? How about just NYC/the NYPD? Israel? Learning about how Saudi Arabia represses its ppl specifically would be interesting. Like, does the CIA actually pay MSM outlets to focus on Venezuela?
