Brother Consolmagno's work is to convince the world that faith and science coexist and complement each otherhttp://nyti.ms/2zm0ztu

A tall order. Faith tells us to accept a belief as fact without any evidence (or in spite of evidence to the contrary). Science tells us to update our credences based on incoming observations and to proceed accordingly. Anything is possible, but many things are highly improbable.

You should read more. Science tells us what and how. Faith tells us who and why. Both are necessary and complementary to human thriving. To say faith and science have nothing in common is to diminish both.

Unlike fundamentalist Christians, the Catholic church learned not to mess with science four hundred years ago.

Actually they finished learning that 400 years ago. The process of learning took around 1000 years.

Faith is believing without proof which is the opposite of science. They coexist but at a cost to the other.

Western religion's compatibility to science is highly debatable. Eastern religion's compatibility to the so-called, "soft sciences" like psychology is deeply fascinating.
