"Youthquake" was coined by Vogue Editor Diana Vreeland in the 2nd half of the 60s. Edie Sedgwick was said to be the inspiration or at least the embodiment of this Boomer cohort.

Yuck! Youthquake is almost as bad as using "woke" as an adjective.

It has to be ‘Trump’. It’s an invented name ( his real family name is Drumpf) so not only should it be word of the year it should also be new word of the year.

ok. Oliver's point was that Trump has branded his name as wealthy and desirable. To strip him of that, focus on the ugly-sounding name of his ancestors. But to say Trump isn't his real name is disrespectful to the many immigrants and Americans who changed their name to fit in.

Sorry, not sure who Oliver is. I see no disrespect to others at all. All my disrespect is focused on him. He has commodified his name...and it’s become ubiquitous through politics. Mind you...I rather like ‘dotard’ as well.

John Olivers piece re: drumpf is where the idea comes from, far as I know. And yeah, fuck Donald Trump and his gross brand. I'd just say that lots of people choose new names, for lots of good reasons. Happy holidays to you, cheeseburger
