Most Sherpas don't love working as a guide, carrying the hopes and demands of foreigners — and sometimes the foreigners themselves — up and down Mount Everesthttp://nyti.ms/2pbwsFJ

However, it paid better than anything else and many of the guides came from remote villages, and there was little work there http://nyti.ms/2zaLJX0 pic.twitter.com/priXwdeaC8

More conventional jobs, in construction or retail, wouldn’t give them the same money for the same amount of work. But it did not mean they liked it. http://nyti.ms/2zaLJX0 pic.twitter.com/TODt3XXYAO

In May 2016, Lakpa Sherpa said he recommended that his clients, a group of 4 Indian climbers, turn back as they were running out of time and oxygen http://nyti.ms/2zaLJX0 pic.twitter.com/QCgFCHLcxO

After they refused to go back, the climbers were eventually abandoned by their guides. Only 1 of the 4 climbers survived. http://nyti.ms/2zaLJX0 pic.twitter.com/cDsGZNQmnm

Apparently there are many people here that have never had to work awful jobs just to survive. Real compassion in the comments. Good job.

Or that the job pays enough to actually live. Have you ever worked a job you hate in order to pay your bills? Or have you just been lucky? Retail pays crap and is crap, as are soooo many jobs. There is a long history of people working dangerous jobs to just live remotely decently

That is long and boring as hell. That writer should be fired on the spot. It also does not answer the question why the sherpa's do it if they don't love it, but for the money.
