She believes she would have died, too, if not for Leslie Binns, a British climber who aborted his own summit attempt to get her to safety http://nyti.ms/2DiKxDV pic.twitter.com/ZH79n5gVYy

Options for would-be rescuers are few at such extreme altitudes. They worry about their own survival, knowing that extra time exposed to the elements can prove fatal. http://nyti.ms/2DiKxDV pic.twitter.com/blmRzdbXTm

Climbers have also paid tens of thousands of dollars, perhaps devoted many years of their lives, to this one day, and might be reluctant to abort it all for a stranger in need of help http://nyti.ms/2DiKxDV pic.twitter.com/y9SjndtmO1

After watching #Everest I know I'll leave that mountain to those who don't mind dying a lot less than I do.

I struggle with people attempting technical climbing, as if it is a tourist attraction, complete with umbrella drinks and wait staff. The mountain is a living, breathing entity that takes advantage of the ill prepared.
