The decision could thwart Uber's expansion plans in the region by making it pay costly licensing fees and employee benefitshttp://nyti.ms/2z3M9yl

Never understood the excitement about things like Uber or AirBNB It´s blackmarket, tax evasion, and dangerous both for customers and Providers ... Regulations are there for a reason ...

in Australia, even 'progressive' people and organisations welcome this vile capitalist destroyer of workers' and passengers' rights and protections, including allowing itself to falsely claim to be a 'ride-sharing' enabler

Uber is a ruthless, capitalist enterprise posing as a trendy, laid back intermediary, thus avoiding all responsibility for its customers, employees or taxes.

I mean, it obviously is. They just have independent contractors instead of cabbies and they don't own/maintain a fleet. It's a cab company with a lot less overhead.

If Uber's platform offers a service to it's clients & contractors that allows them to access & offer taxi services respectively then it's a taxi service & should be regulated as such. It's irrelevant whether it owns a fleet of vehicles or employs drivers.

Agreed. Uber is actually a taxi service. Uber should stop calling itself rideshare cars as more people ride solo in Uber cars.

No matter what the car looks like, if you provide a taxi service via app or telephone then you are a taxi company. #Uber
