In the U.S., applying for a H-1B visa can cost up to $6,000 and can take months. In Canada, high-skilled workers from abroad can get a work permit in 2 weeks.http://nyti.ms/2oMi46h

H1B visa's shouldn't even be allowed. If you worked in IT u would understand. My company utilizes Indian temp agency who brings in H1B visa's to undercut American wages. Bring in Indians who will work for 40k in jobs American's make 60k. Easy to preach when you're just a reporter

Exactly this. I don't support Trump at all but in this instance, and from experience in having it done to me, H1B should be outlawed. It takes jobs from Americans so the corporate rich can prosper even more.

Sounds great if true that Canadian companies can quickly get the necessary talent to move the organizations forward. Last I heard it was still difficult. May be worth a closer look.

I think it’s more like 2 months, not 2 weeks. Regardless Canada now leads in % of homeownership, life expectancy, public education results. We’re #winning.

We aren’t No 1 for life expectancy, home ownership or some other categories but I agree with your bigger point. We’re winning. (Nothing wrong with renting btw) For economic, political and social freedom we’re among leaders. There’s no place I’d rather live.

Having moved to Canada recently I can tell you that nothing immigration related happens in two weeks, and it also costs a lot!!!

There aren't enough highly skilled workers in the US for all of the tech jobs, not to mention to bring more in. Great article here about why Canada is doing so much better.https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2017/07/canada-america-taxes/533847/ …

Along with the Chinese and the Russians, let's add the Canadians to the group of people who easily outsmart Donald Trump (while we wiser and kinder Americans shake our heads in regret and embarrassment).

Did you know, that to get into Harvard, it can cost over $60,000 a year and take years of studying and getting good grades and you’re still not guaranteed a spot; at Community College, units are less than $100 and anyone can go?

And the easier migration is why Canadian tech firms are more innovative and produce more widely used products than Silicon Valley—oh wait.

H1-Bs have been expensive and time consuming for years. But, sure, go buy a ton of Canadian tech stocks if that’s what you believe.
