Nothing said is a lie, but like everywhere we believe opinions instead of facts. No gov says truths neither the people.Being Spaniard is an honor, and I wish all Spaniards would be able to feel somehow proud of that

‘Catalan independence referendum was not just illegal, but also a fraud. ...’ that’s where I stopped reading. Reality in Catalonia and Spain a bit too complex for exile author.

Los españoles somos un pueblo difícil de definir , algo contradictorio y capaces de todo . No conviene menospreciar a los españoles , pierdes seguro.

Horseshit. Catalunya longstanding chafing against Spanish rule has existed long before there was a Putin or an EU. And if the EU said, as was suggested for Scotland, that it have its own membership, what then? If this really is just about the EU project?

People around the world: Some people of the catalan goverment are in jail cause their political ideas. That's not democracy. The people of Spain cannot decide who's our head of the state, because we still have a King. That's not democracy.

You have no idea what are you talking about. They are not in jail because of their ideas but because they brook the law. And belive it or not, Spain is a democracy.

It's quite OK for Javier Cercas to feel Spanish and not want independence. But it's to the Catalan people to democratically decide its future.

The referendum was illegal according to the Spanish gov. But it will never be legal. But it is just and legitimate for a nation to decide its destiny. Democracy cannot be prevented by unfair law.
