A high-powered attorney died. His ex-wife investigated and found a web of drug abuse in his profession. http://nyti.ms/2kBnEqN  This was one of our most popular stories on Twitter this year.

A sad story indeed. However, lawyers are humans and are susceptible to life’s trappings just like anyone else.

Interesting article, and I'm not suprised about level of alcohol & drug abuse among lawyers. I'd like to add to what the article touched on re: law school. I think most people want to be a lawyer because they have a definite desire to seek justice. 1/

The problem that starts to arise in law school is realizing that notion of justice that we in this country have come to believe in simply does not exist. 2/

The notions that justice is blind, justice is swift, justice is guaranteed, justice is transparent, justice is reasonable, justice is righteous- all of these are ideas/notions, and nothing more. 3/

The construct by which we seek to deliver justice, the law, is flawed. The best way I can put is that in our society, justice follows the law when in actuality the law should follow justice. 4/

Most laws in this country have been written, not to deliver justice, but to protect the interests of specific groups of people. How can justice be delivered under such conditions? 5/

So, the realization that what you've believed all your life does not really exist is hard to accept. 6/

Only The NY Times would think this was news. There isn’t a lawyer on the planet who isn’t completely fucked up on everything from their own ego to every drug or drink available & 98.9% would be the 1st to admit it. The rest aren’t successful. How dumb can u get?

The BRUTAL Reality of America Work Culture isn't any better than the Workaholic or Japan. Especially for those who want to make something of his or her lives. It is as if you were just a machine and the only way to keep going through years were aspirin coffee, Med. or others..

Heart breaking story.I m sorry for his family.Maybe lawyers or any profession shouldn't work so hard.only in work camp people work that much.they are only human,I do see how in an overworked & ultra competitive environment people could be pushed to this end.so sad, what a waste.
