Why can’t India, which has made enormous strides fighting poverty and aspires to be a superpower, get a handle on its pollution?http://nyti.ms/2BQOnmp

US IS POLLUTING INDIA. @nytimes are you not ashamed ? Do proper home work.. "In 2016, the U.S. sent more than 8 million metric tons of petcoke to India about 20 times more than in 2010, and enough to fill the Empire State Building eight times."

Did US dump it on India? They cannot. India paid to get it. We have to develop better technology to combat various sources of pollution and impose strict laws/taxes on those who pollute.

🙏Thank you for the question. US China has proven to be an example of failure to combat pollution. But INDIA can... Hope you will be there to applaud us too.

Why can’t usa ? Why does it cancel treaties and doesn’t take part among countries fighting against air pollution ?

Fair point, I think it’s because it takes a certain kind of maturity (and development) to fully understand the impact of pollution. India is a young nation & we’re just not there yet. But I believe it will happen just like it did in China (in terms of efforts not results)

You have rightly pointed out the lack of policy and implementation on pollution control in india. Ppl especially in metros don't udstnd that if not soon they themselves come frwd to plant trees and cntrl air pollution they will reduce their children's life cycle by 10-15 yrs.

India have many problem and also probable solution but the main problem is systemic corruption in government. Once it clean up the air will clean automatically. And it's very true that 60 years of corruption can't wash away in 60 days.

India is a disgrace in many respects. It is a wealthy BRICS nation, a nuclear power, yet unable - or unwilling? - to alleviate dire poverty. This is beyond comprehension. It's unconscionable.
