Rice cereal is often a baby’s first solid food. It contains relatively high amounts of arsenic.http://nyti.ms/2kwsAwQ

Arsenic aside, there are so many reasons rice cereal should not be baby’s first solid food!

Here’s one link. Plenty of others if you Google “Why rice cereal is not the best choice for babies.” Essentially, if you’re going to start giving solids, it’s best to start with unprocessed Whole fresh Foods (avocado, banana, sweet potato...)https://www.bellybelly.com.au/baby/rice-cereal-4-reasons-why-its-better-to-skip-it/ …

My oldest will be 40. As an RN I fed my kiddos very carefully (had 90 hours of nutrition in nursing school). Thanks for sharing all nutritional info.

I find it’s best to feed babies pure angst and let them breathe deep puffs of second-hand anxiety.

French doctors are aghast that we do this! My first was born there and I was instructed to begin with green vegetables, then starchier vegs (think carrots), ONLY THEN fruit, etc. Pretty early on there was also full-fat yogurt... Her first grains were late, probably baguette.

That is such bullshit. There is no way there is even remotely more than a trace amount of arsenic.

I’m guessing the author of this article, probably in their 30’s, was fed and ate rice cereal just fine. Don’t be a fear monger.
