Well I think your personal anecdote certainly trumps a scientific study of 44 hospitals across the country!

Good article. The name thing isn’t a big deal to me except when a CEO uses my first name in a meeting with all male doctors who are “Doctor.” On another note, do you have any talented, qualified female physician writers on staff?

Typical scene: a male nurse and go to see a patient.7 times out of 10,the patient will address the nurse as "doctor",despite our obvious difference in clothing.

Try having dinner reservations under Dr.& Mrs. and have two women show up. Talk about confusion.

I keep a daily misogyny count - every time I am called nurse, by my first name, honey, comment made about my appearance or am inappropriately touched , or I told I can't be a surgeon b/c I am just a little girl or physically threatened-it's multiple times a day, every single daypic.twitter.com/HlvtAMukQS

The cardiologist who performed my quadruple bypass was a woman. She saved my life and I told her that. Needless to say, I have no problem with female physicians. (I didn't before that either.)

Especially white men they think its always ok to call their doctors by their first name. Note to all that’s never acceptable . They are always to be addressed Doctor then last name. With only one exception The Doctor tells you to address them differently.
-
By this logic, I’m going to demand everyone call me Nurse Johnson from now on.
-
If that is how you would like to be addressed, then go for it. If it's important to you it will be important to the people in your life.
-
I was mainly trying to make a point that the tweet I was replying to was suggesting that physicians are entitled to more respect in healthcare, which is false. We’re all working towards he same goal. Respect should be shared equally, no matter the discipline.
-
Thanks for clarifying. However I disagree with you. Some efforts, like the sacrifices required to become a doctor, should earn more respect.
-
Yes. They sacrificed to be a doctor. But us nurses are with our patients constantly, and that job is very demanding. Different kind of sacrifices, yes, but I think deserve equal respect.
