The ruling cemented that Russia was guilty of executing an extensive state-backed doping programhttp://nyti.ms/2AxO7Jp

It's unfortunate that @nytimes omitted to mention that Russia's persecution of the whistleblower Rodchenkov is actually intensifying. In late Sept., Russia arrested him in absentia and confiscated his property, and even his daughter's apartment!https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/28/sports/olympics/russian-doping.html …

That NYT piece omitted the full measure of spite exercised by Putin's police state, but Russian state media admitted to it: https://www.rt.com/sport/404941-grigory-rodchenkov-arrested-in-absentia/ … "Earlier, the court seized land in Moscow Region among with a private house registered in the name of Rodchenkov’s daughter..."

.The NYT also forgot to mention a recent death threat against Rodchenkov by Leonid Tyagachev (Russia’s Olympic Committee head, 2001-2010, and its current honorary president): https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/nov/17/russian-olympic-official-says-doping-whistleblower-should-be-executed … Tyagachev should've received a lifetime ban too, plus an Interpol red notice.

Behold RT's Jan. 2017 febrile name-calling ("Dr. Death") & slander of the whistleblower Rodchenkov: https://www.rt.com/op-edge/374696-rodchenkov-criminal-doping-whistleblower/ … Those who watch the agitprop network to "question more" may well ask why RT thought this 3rd-rate hatchet job would convince anyone of their cynical agenda.

From the honorable Meduza site (run by independent Russian journalists living mostly in Latvian exile) comes this roundup of Russian state media's treatment of Rodchenkov:https://twitter.com/meduza_en/status/938102075652739077 …

45 minutes until the International Olympic Committee reveals its decision on Team Russia. Here's what Moscow has been saying about Grigory Rodchenkov in the meantime. https://meduza.io/en/feature/2017/12/05/a-certifiable-charlatan …

Lastly, some sports reporters (local TV news, I'm talking about you) present today's ban as punishment for doping at Sochi. Not so! It's because Russia's RUSADA and Sports Ministry continue to fail to comply with the roadmap to re-certification set forth many months ago by WADA.

But this is also a weird misunderstanding I have. If you win cheating, how do you ever feel like you won? I just don't understand the mindset that the trophy proves anything.
